2026-06-05 First alpha release of SPEX 4.0#
We are happy to announce that we released the first version of SPEX version 4.0 for testing. Since 2022, we have been working on the source code structure in SPEX and have made it modular.
Most of the user interfaces have remained the same, but under the hood, the structure of SPEX changed completely. The SPEX functionality has been organised in libraries with their own API interfaces. This makes it possible to build other software on top of SPEX. The API documentation will be available later in 2026.
This first version of SPEX4 has been tested internally at SRON, but it is likely that not all functionality works perfect yet. In the coming months, we hope to receive feedback and bug reports from the community and iron out the remaining problems.
Please be careful using SPEX4 for scientific publications until this version is considered stable. Please verify your result against SPEX 3.08.03 to be sure.
